Bruichladdich
Bruichladdich was founded in 1886 by brothers William, John and Robert Gourlay Harvey. The distillery is the westernmost distillery in the country. What is special about Bruichladdich is that they still work according to local traditions. For example, whiskey is only made from Scottish barley. Did you know that this distillery also produces heavily peated and even extremely peated whisky? This is released under the names Port Charlotte and Octomore.
The Lochinaal distillery closed in 1929, exactly 100 years after its founding. In 2007, Bruichladdich took over the land and remaining buildings. The distillery's name was reinstated and from then on it was known again as Port Charlotte. Because Bruichladdich has been owned by the Remy Cointreau group since 2012, expectations are high about what exactly will happen to the distillery.
